FOTOGRAFÍA
Mi primera cámara, rudimentaria, la compré a los catorce años, en un viaje a Portugal, en Lisboa, en el verano de 1967. A través del visor, todo lo veía como una pintura, un cuadro. No paraba de retratar a mis hermanos y amigos, de fotografiar paisajes y arquitecturas urbanas. Mi primera réflex la compré en Melilla, camino de Argel, en el verano de 1978, y la llevé por todo el norte de África, hasta Turquía; luego la cambié por otra, que me siguió acompañando por África, Cuba, los países del Sudeste Asiático, Filipinas… Murió en Nepal, en 2001, viniendo de India; en la jungla del Annapurna, arriba de la montaña, por la célula fotoeléctrica: muerte por agua. A partir de 2008, comencé a hacer fotos de estudio; ya no viajo tanto, y monté uno en casa. Hasta entonces, todas mis fotos habían sido las de un flâneur; el ojo-cámara callejeando, sin rumbo fijo, por las ciudades del mundo.
Me veo de cinco años, me estoy viendo mirando al niño del gran espejo, colgado en el probador de la sastrería de mi padre, en la penumbra de aquel cuarto. El brillo de los ojos del niño vibrando como el oro viejo que enmarcaba aquella mise en abyme. Soñaba con que las puertas de azogue y de cuerno de luna del espejo se abrían para mí, y yo saltaba dentro y me fundía con mi doble. Me sigo viendo, aquí y ahora, mirándome mirar por el objetivo de la cámara. El Artista, Narciso poliédrico, es incapaz de salir de sí mismo; siempre, en su imagen otra y única.
Mito trágico o mito placentero, simulacro de muerte para Barthes, ritual de muerte y de vida, la fotografía es también resurrección. La fotografía vive en la mirada: te veo: memoria de la luz. Espacio y tiempo apenas sobreviven. Mirar es percibir la duración. No hay otro tiempo recobrado. No hay otra eternidad.
