Te\u00f3filo Gautier, a quien Baudelaire dedic\u00f3 <\/em>Las flores del mal<em>, escribi\u00f3: <\/em>Aunque ya no sienta como anta\u00f1o horror a la palabra adecuada ni ame la per\u00edfrasis, el verso franc\u00e9s se resiste, por su propia estructura, a expresar la particularidad significativa, y, cuando se obstina en hacerla entrar en su estrecho marco, se vuelve enseguida dura, \u00e1spera y penosa. Los <em>Peque\u00f1os poemas en prosa <\/em>vienen, pues, muy a prop\u00f3sito, a suplir esa incapacidad, y como esto exige un arte exquisito, pues hay que colocar cada palabra, antes de utilizarla, en una balanza m\u00e1s sensible [\u2026] para saber si tiene la ley, el peso y el sonido requeridos, Baudelaire ha puesto de relieve un aspecto precioso, delicado y raro de su talento.
